FAQs About Our Venue Search
What rink size are we looking for?
There's a difference?: Practice Space vs. Game Space
We would love a space that worked for both practice and games, but we know that's not always possible. You can't always get what you want, right? For games we must have a space that is 65'x100' to meet WFTDA standards [WFTDA Track], but preferably 75'x110'. We can practice in a much smaller space given the flooring is appropriate. Have one or the other? Let's talk!
Do you have your own insurance?
Yes! We carry our [both the league and each individual] own insurance through our governing body, the Women's Flat Track Derby Association [WFTDI]. We can provide a Certificate of Liability Insurance to any venue as well.
Won't roller derby ruin the floor?
Nope. Cross our hearts! When we do leave marks, they are easily removable scuffs. Still worried? We've got the Program Coordinator of Ottawa's Recreational, Cultural and Facility Services' stamp of approval [Letter of Support]. We are willing to follow any of the suggestions put forth in the Letter of Support for being extra kind to venue floors.
Does the rink have to be in State College?
It depends. We are hoping to stay in the Centre County area, but would be open to venues to Centre County limits.
What other amenities are you looking for?
Required: Access to bathrooms. Running water, storage space, AC/Heat, and meeting space are a plus!
What time do you normally practice?
Our typical practice times are in the evenings during the week, but we occasionally need a weekend time slot. If our membership expands, we may look to increase our usage if it's available.
I don't have a rink/venue, but can I donate or help in any other way?
We get it. The one time you clean your bag out is the time someone's going to ask for a spare venue! But you can still assist us through sponsorships, donations* to our league, and getting the word out to others in the community.
*We're a 501(c)3 non-profit, so donations are tax-deductible. be sure to provide your contact information so that we can send you a receipt.
